Therefore, the neurological examination also examines muscle tone. Muscle tone is the resting tension of the muscles. To examine it, the neurologist will move your arm or leg. This will give a picture about muscle strength and also assess the ease of movement and the distance over which it is possible. During a muscle examination, the neurologist uses a fine needle to measure the electrical activity in the muscle. This needle is much thinner than a hypodermic needle. Inserting the needle feels roughly like a pinprick. Smaller muscles do tend to be more sensitive than larger muscles.
